Listening
We need to do more than listen when it comes to the suffering of the Palestinians. Israel`s illegal creeping confiscation of Arab land on the West Bank and blockade of Gaza need to be stopped. The world is moving against Israel, not because it is becoming more anti-Semitic, but because it is getting impatient with Israel`s oppressive behavior toward those under its occupation.

Listening
The ears are a window to the heart....even the most stoney and tightly shut heart can open through friendship and respect, in the sameway that a light can illuminate a cave that has been in blackness for a million years when the young people of this conflict are respect and are no longer used and squandered by the ranting of professional religionsists with a point to score...when they can be listen to...then the nations will be ready to listen to.

Kol hakavod, rabbi hartman
KOl hakavod, Rabbi Hartman, Kol hakavod for this spendid article. I hope it is widely read and heeded, because it is a message the world urgently needs. I have found that there are, roughly speaking, two kinds of people when it comes to politics. The vast majority of people see things in terms of good and evil, black and white, as “us versus them.” They delight in demonizing people not in their camp and in scoring debating points. The more negative things they can find about their opponents -- whether they be Arabs or Jews, Republicans or Democrats, Blacks or Whites, Orthodox or Reform, hawks or doves or whomever -- the more powerful they feel in their own camp. They generally speak only to others from their own group; listen only to commentators who reinforce their own views; and read only material consistent with their outlooks. The second type of person, by far the minority, while aware of realities and difficulties, seeks to find common ground and solutions. Rabbi Hartman, you are certainly of the second type of peson, and we need many more like you!

Thank You
Thank you for this refreshing essay. I wholeheartedly affirm the importance of hearing the other as long as we commit ourselves to the biblical ethics of hearing. We cannot hear properly if we are not pursuing justice and righteousness. When a Christian group hears Israeli Jews without hearing the Palestinians and especially Palestinian Christians they are in danger of hearing part of the story. I agree, let us hear each other, hear well, and hear the whole story. Respectfully, Rev. Yohanna Katanacho Bethlehem Bible College
