Gil Troy`s piece
This is useful for those of us who returned (following the warning: "do not try this at home") wanting to explain a little of what we might have learned at the Lay Learning two weeks ago. Although perhaps a bit fluffy, it is also profound in the diaspora lay discussions. I did hear responses to Mr. Cohen which are worth a separate posted article. Thanks. By the way, it is not clear whether it is a "tinker`s dam" or "damn" http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/tinkers-damn.html

The Ultimate truth does not change
You have many changes that have occured to the original jewish tradition throughout the millenia, But they all vanished, thier followers assimilated and were forever lost to the jewish nation, just the way it is happening today in the US with the Reform Jews. The Forever Lasting Faith is the original Judaism !!

And on the other side . . .
The word "Palestinians" does not appear in this "feel-good" piece of fluff. Until Zionism deals with its fundamental conflict: How do we justify taking land that other people are living on, and how do we treat those people? it will remain a badly flawed basis for a state, or a Jewish identity.

Our forefathers wars...
Its high time we stop fighting them and perpetuate this conflict. For zionsim to become a form of humanism , we need to aknowledge with reason rather than with our heart that the "others" have also a birthright in this land. Israel will need a constitution that garanttes these inalianable rights for each. To rely on old myths to hold ground is not a form of humanism. On the other hand we also need to adress the realities on the ground . There should be a fine balance in negotiations, but let it be spurred by elitism of a nation versus another.
