David Hartman, Founding President of Shalom Hartman Institute, is a leading contemporary Jewish philosopher and internationally renowned author. He has a doctorate in philosophy from McGill University and was ordained as a rabbi by Yeshiva University

Donniel Hartman, President of Shalom Hartman Institute, has a doctorate in Jewish Philosophy from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a Master of Arts in Political Philosophy from New York University, a Master of Arts in Religion from Temple University, and rabbinic ordination from the Shalom Hartman Institute

Yehuda Kurtzer is President of the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. He was Visiting Assistant Professor and the inaugural Chair of Jewish Communal Innovation at Brandeis University
Yoske (Yosef) Achituv
Yoske (Yosef) Achituv teaches Judaic studies at Yeshivat HaKibbutz HaDati and the Ya’akov Herzog Center at Ein Zurim; formerly, Yoske was the principal of the Kibbutz HaDati High School.
Adam Afterman
Adam Afterman has a doctorate in Jewish Thought from the Department of Jewish Thought of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His first book, The Intention of Prayers in Early Ecstatic Kabbalah: A Study and Critical Edition of an Anonymous Commentary to the Prayers, was published in Los Angeles in 2004
Orit Avnery
Orit Avnery is completing her doctorate in Bible studies at Bar-Ilan University, and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and learned at the Matan Institute for Jewish Studies
Shraga Bar-On
Shraga Bar-On serves on the board of directors of Shalom Hartman Institute’s Midrashiya for Girls. He is a teacher and former assistant principal at the Institute’s Charles E. Smith High School for Boys, and is completing his doctorate in Jewish philosophy at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
Tal Becker
Dr. Tal Becker is a fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, an International Associate at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and a member of the Hartman Institute`s Engaging Israel Project
Yitzhak Benbaji
Yitzhak Benbaji has a doctorate in philosophy from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. An assistant professor of philosophy at Bar-Ilan University, Yitzhak has taught Judaic studies at Paideia - the European Institute for Jewish Studies in Sweden and at The Drisha Institute in New York.
Bill Berk
Bill Berk is Co-Coordinator of the Institute’s Rabbinic Student Seminar. Winner of the Covenant Award in 2003 for his work in adult education, Bill served as the rabbi of Temple Chai in Phoenix for 23 years and directed its growth from 80 to 1,100 families
Ya’akov Castel
Ya’akov Castel has an MA in Jewish history from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Ya’akov is a retired Colonel in the Israel Defense Forces and served most recently as Director of the IDF’s Department of Education
Avital Davidovich-Eshed
Avital Davidovich-Eshed is writing her doctoral dissertation in Medieval Jewish History at Tel Aviv University. Her research concerns the attitudes of medieval Jewish society toward unmarried women
David Dishon
David Dishon has an MA in Jewish history from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. David co-founded Shalom Hartman Institute’s Charles E. Smith High School in 1985, where he currently directs and teaches Jewish Studies.
Yochai Eden
Yochai Eden coordinates SHI’s Israeli curricular writing program. He has an MA in history from Touro College and is a graduate of Beit Morasha’s Program for Educational Leadership
Dov Elbaum
Dov is chief editor of Yediot Ahronot Publishing and has published extensively in Israel’s Hebrew dailies. A graduate of the Interdisciplinary Program at Tel Aviv University, his academic expertise is in philosophy, Kabbalah and Hassidism
Yair Eldan
Yair Eldan has a doctorate from the conflict management program in Bar-Ilan University, and an LLB from Hebrew University of Jerusalem
Ari Elon
Ari Elon has 30 years of experience teaching Talmud and Midrash at institutes throughout Israel. Ari is a faculty member in the Bina Center for Jewish Studies at the Efal Seminar Center of the United Kibbutz Movement.
Yakir Englander
Yakir Englander is currently completing his doctorate in Jewish philosophy at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. A former graduate of SHI’s Hadarim program, Yakir has worked as a research assistant for several SHI and Hebrew University scholars.
Menachem Fisch
Menachem Fisch has a doctorate in history and philosophy of science from Tel Aviv University. He is the Joseph and Ceil Mazer Professor of History and Philosophy of Science, and chair of the Graduate School of Philosophy at Tel Aviv University
Ori Goldberg
Ori has a doctorate from Tel Aviv University’s School of History. His dissertation examined the political and philosophical theology of the Islamic Revolution in Iran (1979)
Micah Goodman
Micah Goodman has a doctorate from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Jewish thought. Micah teaches at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at Tel Aviv University, and directs the Chai Academy in Alon.
Moshe Halbertal
Moshe Halbertal has a doctorate in Jewish thought from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he teaches. Moshe is the recipient of the Bruno Award of the Rothschild Foundation and the Goldstein-Goren Book Award for the best book in Jewish thought for the years 1997-2000
Yossi Klein Halevi
Yossi Klein Halevi is a Fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, a member of the Institute’s Engaging Israel Project, and a contributing editor to The New Republic
Melila Hellner-Eshed
Melila Hellner-Eshed has a doctorate in Jewish mysticism from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Melila teaches mysticism at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Conservative Rabbinical Seminary in Jerusalem, and Hebrew Union College.
Moshe Idel
Moshe Idel is the Max Cooper Professor of Jewish Thought at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has a doctorate in Kabbalah and has served as a visiting professor and researcher at universities and institutions worldwide, including Yale, Harvard and Princeton universities in the U.S., and Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris.
Alick Isaacs
Alick Isaacs has a doctorate in Jewish history from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Alick directs the Institute’s Advanced Beit Midrash Program and previously co-directed its Melamdim teacher training program
Rani Jaeger
Rani Jaeger is Director of the Shalom Hartman Institute School for Teacher Education, which is part of the Be’eri program aimed at pioneering a nationwide model of Jewish education for Israeli high schools
Rut Kara-Ivanov Kaniel
Rut Kara-Ivanov Kaniel is a doctoral student in the field of Jewish Thought researching ‘Femininity and Sexuality in the Myth of David’s Messianic Dynasty, The Hebrew Bible, Rabbinic Literature and the Zoharic Corpus’
Tsippi Kauffman
Tsippi Kauffman is a Junior Scholar at Shalom Hartman Institute. Tsippi holds a PhD in Jewish Philosophy from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and lectures at the Yaacov Herzog Center for Jewish Studies
Israel Knohl
Israel Knohl has a doctorate in Bible from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he is the Yehezkel Kaufmann Professor of Bible. Israel served as a visiting professor at UC Berkeley, Stanford University and the University of Chicago Divinity School.

Yair Lipshitz is currently completing a doctorate at Tel Aviv University on the body as a hermeneutical site for Jewish textual culture in theater and drama.

Avidov Lipsker’s principal research areas are modern Hebrew literature, Literary Ecology, and the thematology of the Literature of the Jewish People

Ron Margolin
Ron Margolin has a doctorate in Jewish thought from Tel Aviv University. Ron teaches modern Jewish thought in the Department of Jewish Philosophy and Comparative Religion at Tel Aviv University.
Zvi Mark
Zvi Mark has a doctorate in Jewish literature from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Zvi specializes in the areas of Jewish thought and contemporary Hebrew literature, and teaches at Bar-Ilan University and Yaakov Hertzog College.

Avi Sagi
Avi Sagi has a doctorate in philosophy from Bar-Ilan University where he serves as a professor. Avi is the founding director of Bar-Ilan University’s Program for Hermeneutic Studies and a member of the steering committee for the preparation of the Israel Defense Forces’ code of ethics.
Stuart Schoffman
Stuart Schoffman has been an associate editor and columnist for The Jerusalem Report since the magazine’s inception in 1990. Before making aliyah in 1988, Stuart worked as a journalist for Fortune and Time magazines in New York, and as a Hollywood screenwriter.

Zvi Zohar
Zvi Zohar is a professor at Bar-Ilan University, where he teaches in the Faculties of Law and Jewish Studies and heads the Rappaport Center for Assimilation Research and the Strengthening of Jewish Vitality.
